Local History
Before 1980 and the development of all the new housing estates Jobstown was just a country area, consisting only of farmland. The nearest village was Tallaght a few miles away. The only landmark in the area was the public house called the Jobstown House. The area called Jobstown was just a townland amongst the other surrounding townlands of Killinarden, Mount Seskin, Whitestown, Brookfield, Kiltalown, Corbally, Gibbons, Johnville.
If you look at the 1901 and 1911 census you will see how few families lived in the area and for the most part their occupation was farming of some degree:-
